Meet Karti Sharma and Yusuf Ocalan, two young podcasters from Ishøj who are getting ready to put the people and stories of Vestegnen behind the microphone.
Karti, 15, has Indian roots and was born and raised in Denmark, while Yusuf, 16, has Turkish roots and has spent most of his life in Denmark. Both live in Ishøj and attend Vejlebroskolen.
Now they want to try something new: creating their own social-media podcast and interview program.
Their idea is simple — meet people, ask questions, listen and tell the stories of the community around them.
Their guests won’t come from just one world. Karti and Yusuf want to sit down with singers, rappers and musicians, athletes, politicians, business owners, community leaders and other interesting people from Ishøj and across Vestegnen.
But some of the most important guests may be people their own age.
The podcast will also look at peer-to-peer projects where young people interview other young people about school, music, sport, culture, opportunities, challenges and what it is actually like growing up on the west side of Copenhagen.
The microphone can also leave the studio.
Karti and Yusuf plan to visit local events, activities and youth projects, including Camp Flow at IshøjUngdom during the autumn school holiday, where they can meet participants, instructors, artists and young people and document what is happening.
The goal is not simply to make a podcast. It is to give two young people the opportunity to develop skills in journalism, interviewing, communication, video production and social media while giving other people from the community a chance to tell their own stories.
Two young hosts. One microphone. Hundreds of stories waiting to be told.
