Hip-hop fans in Denmark are in for a rare and powerful treat this summer as Jeru the Damaja, the legendary Brooklyn emcee and cultural icon, is set to hit the stage at the Glostrup Street Festival 2025. The festival will take place on August 30th and 31st, transforming the heart of Glostrup into a vibrant celebration of music, community, and street culture.
Born Kendrick Jeru Davis on February 14, 1971, Jeru the Damaja rose to international fame with his 1993 hit single “Come Clean,” produced by DJ Premier. The track was a standout from his critically acclaimed debut album The Sun Rises in the East—a record widely regarded as one of the 100 greatest hip-hop albums of all time. His work is noted for its raw lyricism, conscious messages, and gritty East Coast sound.
Jeru’s career has been deeply tied to hip-hop royalty. A long-time collaborator with Guru and DJ Premier of the legendary group Gang Starr, Jeru began forging his lyrical identity during his high school years in New York City, before carving out his own place in hip-hop history as a solo artist, activist, and producer.
This year, Jeru joins an electrifying lineup at Glostrup Street Festival that includes fellow hip-hop pioneer Kurtis Blow, alongside a dynamic roster of Danish talent and rising stars from Westside Copenhagen. Local names such as Divine Listic, James Njombua, Mateusz Fratczak NOWA (formerly Nova), Willow, and Kingsley will all be bringing their unique energy to the festival’s open-air stages.
More than just a music event, the Glostrup Street Festival is a grassroots celebration of urban life, diversity, and creative expression. With free concerts, community activities, and a strong youth and family focus, the festival brings together generations through a shared love of music and culture.
Don’t miss this rare chance to witness Jeru the Damaja live in Denmark—an artist whose impact on hip-hop continues to resonate across continents and generations.
